Arctic Animals

This week we talked about "Arctic Animals." We made two different penguins, practiced our puzzle skills with a polar bear puzzle, and made a walrus-this was especially fun because they tried to make it on their own with just a finished project to look at rather than hearing step by step instructions. I hope you enjoyed how they turned out! :-) We also focused on the letter Pp and the number 8.

Next week we will be starting a two week theme of "Dinosaurs." Also learning about the letter Dd and number 9.

Reminders:
--Movie slips/envelopes were sent home for our first field trip. We will be going to see Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs on February 1st and 2nd. Please send $4 with your child next week.
--Our next Families Being Involved event is the 27th for those who signed up to go ice skating at the Simek Center. Mon./Wed. classes will be from 9:00-9:30 and Tues./Thurs. classes will be from 9:30-10:00
--We will be having our next guidance session with Ms. Weiler. This time she will be talking about our personal space/keeping our hands to ourselves, focusing on lessons and projects, and stopping to think about our actions before we do something.
--Valentine's Day is approaching! We will be having a small party during the afternoon of February 13th and 14th. More information will be coming soon.
--Early release Thursday, Feb. 16th

Snow and Snowmen

This week our theme was "Snow and Snowmen." We have definitely had enough snow fall recently to get out there and enjoy making our own snowmen, snowballs, snow forts, etc. Some students talked about getting to ice skate, snowmobile, and go sledding down hills. Thank you for taking the time to enjoy the outdoors with your child! We also focused on the letter Ss and the number 7.

Next week we will be talking about Arctic Animals, the number 8, and the letter Pp.

Reminders:
--There will be no school on Friday, Jan. 20th due to teacher inservice.
--January's Families Being Involved event is ice skating the 27th at the Simek Center for those who sign up. The slips are due back next week-please be sure to list the sizes of skates you will need so we can be sure everyone is able to enjoy the ice. Mon/Wed will be skating from 9:00-9:30 and Tues/Thurs will be skating from 9:30-10:00.
--Please be sure to label your child's snow pants, boots, gloves and hats. We have the students wearing their snow pants at the end of the day because we go straight from last recess to dismissal. In addition, some bus rides can be long and cold so the additional layer holds back the chill on the route home.
--Our first field trip will be Feb. 1st and 2nd in the morning. We will be going to the Broadway Theatre to see Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs to go along with our two week theme of Dinosaurs.

Winter Clothes

Welcome back to school. :-) I hope you all had a great Christmas break! We are in the heart of winter weather now, which is fitting for our theme this week-Winter Clothes. We talked about what things we need to be bundled up in to stay warm outside. We talked about how some winter clothes are similar and different from each other's in class by size, color, style, etc. We also talked about how not all gloves are warm gloves-some thin knot gloves like chill chasers are not the best for recess because they soak up the snow/water and then our hands get cold where as fleece lined or thicker material repels the cold and water better. We also focused on the letter Ww and the number 6.

Next week we will be talking all about snow and snowmen, the letter Ss and the number 7.

Reminders:
--Please try to label your child's belongings to help us determine who they belong to at recess and the end of the day.
--There will be no school for students on Friday, January 20th due to teacher inservice.
--The next Families Being involved event is scheduled for Friday, January 27th-more information will be in your child's folder next week.
--Our first field trip will be Wednesday, February 1st and Thursday, February 2nd. We will be seeing a movie at the Broadway Theatre to go along with our Dinosaur theme. More information will be coming later this month.
