Seeds and Flowers

This week during our theme of "Flowers and Seeds" we learned about the parts of plants and the uses that plants can serve. We made beautiful flowers using milk filters, painted May flowers, and found out seeds come in all sizes, shapes, and colors. We also focused on the letter Uu.

The plastic bag challenge has been a success again this year. My Pre-K students have been able to collect 933 bags, the school total was 39,949 bags!!! Though we didn't win the grand prize for the classroom with the most, we are able to enjoy a watermelon snack next week that will be donated from County Market. The collected bags will be sent to a recycling facility to be made into park benches, flower pots, landscaping bricks, etc.

This week was also the Week of the Young Child. The students had a lot of fun with our dress up days! Mr. Joe came in to read to our class and sent a book that they can keep too. We were invited to watch Hairy and Company-lots of laughs from Hairy and his buddies.

Thank you to all of the families who came and made our Beach Potluck a success. So much good food and the kids had a blast dancing!

Pets

This week our theme was "Pets" and we learned about the many different kids of pets people can have. We talked about how to take care of them and how they depend on us to keep them safe. Our week ended with a field trip to the Medford Veterinarian Clinic where we saw the exam room, X-rays, the lab, surgery room, teeth cleaning station, and some specimens in jars.

We also focused on the letter Xx and found that not many words start with Xx but some do end with it. We have been collecting coins to add to our Pennies for Pets fundraiser. The Pre-K students were able to raise $265.28! This money will be donated to the Taylor County Humane Society.

Next week our theme will be "Seeds and Flowers". The school is having the 3rd annual plastic bag challenge-sponsored by County Market. We will take any clean plastic bags that you would like to recycle. The class who has the most wins a prize.

Easter and Spring

We just finished the first of two weeks focused on Easter and spring. So far we have made colorful eggs, a "duck-bunny", bunny paper bags, and turned the pre-k students into Easter bunnies. We also learned about the letter Ee and reviewed the number 9. ☺ We will continue next week with a fun Easter movie, a chick windsock, and learning about the letter Bb and reviewing the number 10.

We had some special visitors from the Medford public library this week as well. The students heard a story about all the types of traps that might be set to try to catch the Easter bunny, as well as a smelly assistant (a skunk) who was very excited about Easter.

We are into the final quarter of the school year-less than 40 more school days to go! The students had fun decorating hermit crab shells to go along with the story "A House for a Hermit Crab". This story is about growing and finding new friends throughout a year and preparing for new adventures.
